1. What is Residential or Commercial window film?
Window film is basically a self-adhesive polyester film that is applied to the interior surface of glass. It’s used as a “retrofit” for existing glass on homes and commercial buildings in order to upgrade solar control and safety.

2. How does window film work?
Solar radiation from the sun is divided into 3 components; visible light we can see, infrared light and ultraviolet rays which we can only feel. As solar radiation strikes a piece of glass, window film acts as a “sunscreen” to block harmful UV rays as well as regulate the levels of heat and light passing through the glass.

3. What are the benefits of Llumar window film?
1. Lower Energy Bills. With Llumar window film, less heat will enter through your windows in the summer and in the winter less heat will escape out your windows, causing less stress on your cooling/heating system.

4. Why should I choose Llumar over other window films?

5. How much money can I expect to save on my energy bill?
Llumar window films dramatically reduce the amount of infrared radiation – or heat – that penetrates your windows, thereby lowering the amount of energy required to cool the home in hot summer months. During the winter months, Llumar window films act as insulation for your windows, keeping warm air from escaping through your windows thus reducing the work load on your heat pump. The precise savings depend on the amount of glass filmed, the direction the home or building faces and, of course, how cool or warm of an environment you prefer. Some utility companies offer rebate programs for home or business owners who have solar control films installed. You may wish to contact your energy provider to inquire about rebate programs.

6. Does window film provide any benefit during the winter?
Absolutely! During the winter months the sun is lower in the sky and shines more directly into your windows. More sun damage and fading occurs during the winter than any other season. Not to mention, Llumar window films helps to retain heat inside rooms on cold days. Window film also helps block the extremely harsh glare from snow and the direct, harsh sunlight that will enter your building due to little or no leaves on the trees in the winter months.

7. Will window film make a difference with excessive heat?
Yes. How much though, depends on what film option a customer chooses. Heat reflection on glass can be reduced drastically. Our window films are designed to stop glare, block heat and decrease hot spots throughout the building.

8. Isn't window film expensive?
No. Actually, the average installation costs less than most other window treatments (i.e. vinyl replacement windows, curtains) and with a pay back of 2-5 years, it is pretty economical. Your investment in window film will return dividends in the form of reduced energy costs and protection against vandals which other window solutions can't offer.

9. What is the typical Energy Pay Back for Llumar window films?
Simple pay backs will vary depending upon the amount of sunlit glass exposure, the type of film, the type of glass, cost of fuel, cost of application, and other variables. However, we have seen pay backs often range in the 2-5 year period, with some reported to be even less than 6 months!

10. Isn't Residential & Commercial window film the same as "car tint"?
No. There are many different kinds of window film, each with a specific purpose. Residential & Commercial window film is specifically made for home & business applications and cannot be used on automobiles just as automobile window film cannot be used on homes or businesses. Each film has characteristics pertaining to its use. The darkness that you see on car tinting is due to the kind of tint that automobiles must use. BEWARE of tint shops that claim to do Residential or Commercial window tinting but try to sell or apply automobile window film to your home or office windows. This could result in premature window seal failure/damage or glass breakage.

11. How would i know if a company is really using Residential window film or just using "car tint"?
1. Ask how long has the company been in business at that location. Good tint shops prosper despite local competition by offering good service at reasonable prices. We suggest that you find a tint shop that has been in business for 5 or more years at the same location. This shows a stable business that will be there years down the road if somehow the film goes bad.
Often times, successful tint shops have many satisfied customer testimonials or referrals as well as radio, television or print ads. Ask to see some of these. These are sure signs of a successful tinting business. Usually "fly-by-night" tint shops are quicker to claim that they cover all areas of window filming because they need the start-up revenue so they're not going to be quick to turn down a job.
2. Ask what type of film they use and if they can show you samples of the film in different shades and colors as well as pictures of previous jobs that they've done. Quality tint shops carry complete lines of window film from one or multiple window film manufacturers. They should carry quality window film in a variety of colors and darknesses.
Beware of tint shops that only carry one type or shade of film, and attempt to sell it aggressively. They may have acquired this film on sale, and may not be thinking of your unique requirements and concerns.
3. Ask thorough and detailed questions about their warranty or have them explain their warranty to you. The warranty on Residential or Commercial window film varies depending on the window film you choose. All Llumar Residential Window Films that we install are backed with a
LIFETIME WARRANTY for color, fading, materials and labor.
When purchasing window film, be sure to ask about a manufacturer's warranty card from the dealer.
Never accept "Word Of Mouth" guarantees or warranties. Only credible Residential or Commercial window film companies will be able to provide a manufacturer's warranty card.
4. Beware of tint shops that claim they will have to install your film in strips because of the size of the window. Automobile window film rolls only come in sizes up to 60" in width (although most shops only carry 20" to 40" rolls). Most commercial windows are larger than this, thus making it hard for someone using automobile window film to completely and successfully film these windows. Residential and Commercial window films come in sizes up to 80" in width and sometimes larger, easily accomodating these larger, commercial windows.
5. Pay attention to customer service--on the phone and in person. Good dealers pay attention to customer service. They should be happy and willing to spend the time to talk to you and explain how their shop works. Remember, if they don't spend time with you now, will they spend time with you if something were to go wrong with your window film job down the road?
When they come to your home or office for an estimate, they should be clean and neat with the proper materials and information to give you the product presentation in an organized, professional manner.

12. Isn't all window film "shiny" or "dark"?
No. One of a customer's major drawbacks when searching for a "sun solution" is the myth that all window films act like mirrors or that they are so dark that they are unattractive. Llumar's line of window films carries films that actually have less interior reflectivity than the original glass they cover. Llumar window films offer protection from the sun's damaging UV rays and controls heat and glare, while inviting warm, natural light into the room and increasing comfort and leaving your view clearer than ever!

13. Will window film make my house seem dark inside?
No, it will not. Our window film will allow you to enjoy a virtually clear, crisp view unmatched by inferior darker or reflective films. Our films will not change the look of your home’s interior or exterior.
14. Will window film really stop my furnishings from fading?
Nothing can stop fading completely. Our films are designed to reduce the major causes of fading (ultraviolet light, visible light, and solar heat), thus prolonging the life of your furnishings, perhaps as much as two to five times. Keep in mind the articles to be protected; if they have a typical life of 5 years then they may last 10 years to much longer depending on the performance of the film selected. However, if the typical life is only 2-3 weeks, then the expectation should be expressed in terms of months. As a general rule of thumb, ultraviolet (UV) is approximately 40% of the cause, visible light is about 25%, and heat about 25%. The remaining 10% can be attributed to humidity, pollutants, interior lights, dye anchorage, and more.

15. I can't see my TV or computer screen because the glare is too heavy. Can i eliminate annoying glare?
Our window films can eliminate annoying glare up to 75% for residential applications and the window film will be virtually unnoticeable.

16. What is the life expectancy of window film?
The life expectancy of window film is dependent upon multiple variables (climate, exposure to sun, etc). The average life expectancy is ten years and beyond and many customers have had Llumar window film on their windows for over twenty years.
All of our Residential window films carry a Residential Limited Lifetime Warranty (lifetime for as long as the original purchaser owns their home.) We can provide proof of this in writing.

17. How is Llumar window film warranted?
Our Residential applications are backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and up to 10 years on Commercial applications. This is a written Manufacturers Warranty which we offer for your peace of mind.

18. How should I clean my windows after my new window film is installed?
A mild soap & water solution along with a soft cloth is what is suggested.
Make sure not to use industrial strength or ammonia-based window cleaners. Never use a window cleaner unless it is specifically formulated for use on after-market tinted windows. We recommend Max Professional window cleaner, a spray foam glass cleaner available here at Tint Tech Customs Window Tinting, for a streak free shine everytime. We also carry Glass Care Kits which consist of everthing that you need to keep your windows spic-n-span without harming your new window film.

19. Will tinted windows inhibit my visibility?
No, Llumar window film will actually reduce so much glare and heat that it will add clarity to your scenic view. The pleasure of your beautiful view will return and you will be provided with a outstandingly clear view, day or night.
20. Do you install window film on the inside or outside of a building?
Window film is typically installed on the interior side of a window keeping it safe from the elements.
21. How will window film affect my house plants?
Since most house plants are “tropical plants” they thrive best in their natural environment, the cover of the rain forest. These plants are often better conditioned to grow in defused light as opposed to direct sunlight, which may burn their leaves. Your plants may thrive even better with a window film.
22. How durable is window film?
Llumar window film is protected by a hard scratch-resistant coating that can withstand everyday use and kids. The key word however is "resistant", this does not mean "scratch-proof". Even glass will scratch, so be careful when handling objects with sharp edges, boxes, sporting equipment, tools and other items that can easily make small nicks that are not covered by your warranty.

23. Can you apply window film to dual-paned, tinted or Low-E glass?
Absolutely! You will notice enhanced energy performance from your dual-paned, tinted or Low-E glass windows after installation.
24. Will window films cause my glass to break?
No, window films do not cause glass to break. However, we do understand that the application of window film may increase the temperature of your sunlit glass which will increase the stress of the glass edges. The quality of those glass edges and several other factors (external shading, interior shading, glass history, type of film, size/shape of glass, indoor/outdoor temperature) all contribute to the potential risk of glass breakage.
However, our certified installers are trained to be aware of these situations. Our 35 years of experience applying window films to different types of glass enables us to make proper film/glass recommendations and minimize the potential for glass breakage. And for further confidence in our product, we carry a Factory Manufacturers Warranty that covers glass breakage.

25. Will window film void my window’s warranty?
In many cases this is possible. However, our window films come with a 2 year glass breakage and seal failure warranty. If your windows are new and have a longer warranty, we suggest purchasing a glass breakage and/or seal failure warranty from CPFilms, the manufacturer of Llumar Window Film. This warranty will match any existing window manufacturer’s warranty, regardless how long and cover replacement value up to $1,500 per window.

30. How long will the job take to complete?
This depends on the size of the job and the customer. Since different customers have different circumstances and our job is to accommodate them to the best of our ability, it's hard to say. Contracts are usually written with a 1 - 3 day completion period (although most jobs are done in 1 day), and additional days may be given for extra features and details. Changes or additions to the job or inclement weather can delay and extend this period.

31. Do you offer financing?
We do accept Mastercard, Visa, and Discover charge cards. We can also provide assistance to locate outside financing, typically an equity line or line of credit, however we do suggest that you check with you current financing or banking organization first, since we do not offer our own "in house" financing at this time.
32. Do you subcontract any of the work?
As a rule of thumb, we do not write contracts with other contractors. We only use our certified and accredited technicians and installers. This gives us complete and efficient control over scheduling, work progress and follow up service, as well as providing you with immediate responses to inquires, changes or additions. For some phases of work, depending on the workload, skills or machinery involved, we may bring in "outside" specialty labor to assist with portions of the job such as equipment transporting.

33. Do I have to set-up an appointment?
Yes. We prefer to deal with our customers on an appointment basis because this gives each customer's home or business the proper time, attention, and concentration needed to produce a professional result.
